The Norfolk Police Division houses the City of Norfolk jail. The
jail contains four cells. Each cell is designed to hold one subject
at a time. The jail is considered to be a 24-hour holding facility
and is inspected by the State of Nebraska annually. All persons who
are arrested and jailed must have either posted bond or transferred
to another jail facility within 24 hours of their arrest.
Annually between 900 and 1000 persons are confined for various
lengths of time and various offenses. The jail "booking process"
consists of fingerprinting and photographing those who are arrested,
along with filling out jail admission forms, medical history forms,
and property forms. Male and female prisoners are held in the
facility but are housed in separate sections. Juveniles are not held
in the City of Norfolk jail.
