Library Services

   

Interlibrary Loan

If our library doesn't have the book you're looking for, we'll do our best to get it for you by borrowing it from another library.  Contact Doug at 402-844-2105 or dcollier@ci.norfolk.ne.us for details.

Magazines and Newspapers

The library subscribes to 9 newspapers and over 120 magazines and journals to help you keep up with the news, hobbies and entertainment information you need.

Copy Machine

The library has a copy machine for the public to use.  It can print black & white and color copies and can also scan documents onto a USB flash drive.  Black & White copies are 10 cents each. Color copies are 50 cents each.

Mobile Printing Station

The Library has a mobile printing system that will let you print wirelessly from all devices, including laptops, tablets and smartphones. You can submit jobs from the Library or from home. Black & White copies are 10 cents each. Color copies are 50 cents each. Each submitted print job can only total $5. example: a 100 page black and white document will need to be submitted twice, as pages 1-50 then 51-100.

Tech Tutoring

Monday nights 5-7p.m. Get personal tutoring to help you get the most from your tablet, phone, e-reader or laptop. To reserve your 30 minute session visit the Information Desk, call 402-844-2100 or fill out the online registration form here

Borrow the Internet!

Borrow a wireless hotspot from the library and get wireless internet in your home, for a meeting or while traveling. The wireless hotspots provide high speed internet access almost anywhere. You don't need an account with any internet or cellular company. You will just need to have have a library card*, be 18 years old and sign a checkout agreement. There is no charge for this service!

Public Computer Lab

The library has 24 computers for public use. 

18 desktop and 6 laptop computers provide internet access, Microsoft Office software and printing capabilities. 

One of these desktop computers provides has specialized hardware and software for persons with visual disabilities.  

Black & White prints are 10 cents per page and Color copies are 50 cents per page.

Fax and Scan Machine

A public use fax machine is available whenever the library is open.  Charges are $1.75 for the first page and $1 each additional page.  Payment must be made with a credit or debit card.

Outreach Services to Homebound Individuals

The library will delivery library materials to patrons who are no longer able to come to the library.  If you are interested in this service, please contact our Outreach Coordinator, Lenaya, at 402-844-2100.

Magnifier

The library has a MagniSight Custom Focus 20" Color Inline CCTV System.  This can magnify any print document to make reading or research easier.  Thank you to the Norfolk Lions Club who donated this magnifier.

Microfilm Readers

The library has two microfilm readers for patron use and one microfilm reader/printer.  The microfilm reader/printer can print copies from the microfilm and can also scan images to be emailed.  Print copies made from the microfilm reader/printer are 25 cents each.

Obituary Requests

The library can provide a copy of an obituary if a specific date is given. There is a $10 charge for each obituary request. If you are not picking up the obituary copy in person, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment. Please send your request to:

The Norfolk Public Library has a variety of genealogy resources including:

--Alphabetized index of obituaries, various years from 1918-1956
--Census microfilm from several states, 1850-1930
--Norfolk Daily News on microfilm or Data CD, 1887-present
--Norfolk Daily News searchable database, 1887-1983
--Norfolk City Directory, 1889 - present
--Cemetery Records for Madison, Pierce, Stanton, Antelope and Wayne counties

Meeting Rooms

The library has two rooms that can be used by non-profit groups at no charge.

The Library Meeting Room seats a maximum of 75 people and is equipped with a Smart Board, projector, Blu-Ray player, sound system and WiFi internet access.

The Library Board Room seats a maximum of 12 people and has WiFi internet access.

Library Collections

The library offers a diverse collection of items to be checked out by patrons, including a wide variety of regular and large print books, DVDs, music CDs, audio books, video games, puzzles, and travel packs (packages of travel brochures for different travel destinations).

Free WiFi

Free wireless internet access is provided throughout the library.

Online Library Services

The library provides 24/7 access to a wide variety of downloadable ebooks, music, information and research databases.  See the complete list of Online Library Services.  A Norfolk Public Library card, username and password are required to access.  Contact the library for details.

Museum Pass

Library patrons may check out a pass to the Elkhorn Valley Museum and Research Center.  The pass gives free entry for one day to the Museum, Research Center, and Children's Discovery Zone for 2 adults and their children or grandchildren.  One pass may be requested at a time.
