Circulation Department

Norfolk Public Library has almost 15,000 registered patrons -- 25% come from surrounding communities. Yearly, the library circulates over 300,000 items. The library offers over 76,000 books, 15,000 electronic books, 2061 DVDs, more than 1,200 recorded books, and more than 2,400 compact discs. In addition, maps, travel packs, microfilm and an extensively cataloged pamphlet file are available.

With the exception of videos, DVDs and CDs, materials may be checked out for two weeks and may be renewed for two additional two week periods. Videos, DVDs and CDs may be checked out for one week with no renewal.

Borrowers Registration Policy

A current registration form on file is required for any person to be issued a borrower’s card. Because all of our registrations are on a computer database, the Library will make every effort to update registration information "online" and will not ask the patron to fill out a new registration form each time their status changes.

The registration form shall include the following information supplied by the applicant:

  • name;
  • mailing address;
  • Address of actual residence if PO Box is given as mailing address
  • date of birth;
  • home phone number (When it is possible registration information should include an alternate phone number work, school, etc.);
  • for patrons below seventh grade, or age fourteen, the name of the parent, guardian, or other adult accepting responsibility for use of the library card, and their signature acknowledging responsibility;
  • the applicant’s signature.

The form shall also include a statement accepting responsibility for all materials borrowed and all charges incurred.

For all questions regarding your circulation account, or any of our circulation policies, please contact Doug Collier
