After approximately 30 years
of increasing need, the Norfolk Fire Division is operating
at a second fire station. The station, at 2920 W. Benjamin
Avenue, supplements the current station at 701 Koenigstein
Avenue. The station on Koenigstein Avenue currently houses
18 vehicles in a 12 bay structure.
The new station has 3 apparatus bays and
is manned by three fire fighters and the Operations Manager.
The station, budgeted at $1,351,000 which includes
architectural fees, is designed to blend in to the
residential area it is located in. It has 3 bedrooms,
a conference room, kitchen, day room, two offices and a
fitness center. The architect for the project was HGM
Associates Inc.
The members of the division are very
excited about the new station. It provides service to
a quickly developing area of town as well as providing back
up to the first station.
The new station began operation June 7,
2004 with the Open House for the public being held
June 13.
