How does the City protect our water resources?
Norfolk's Public Works Department regularly sweeps City streets
to keep the trash and debris out of the storm drains. The City also
removes trash and noxious vegetation from the many gulches and
waterways throughout Norfolk. The City has miles of gulches and many
storm sewer inlets that require occasional maintenance. The City
regularly maintains Municipal Facilities, City-owned detention
ponds, parks and open-space areas each year.
The City actively supports the Transfer Station which allows all
residents of Norfolk to recycle their household hazardous waste,
used oil, paint and other materials. For information and directions
review the
Transfer Station website, and our discussion of the various
waste types accepted at the Transfer Station.
See Report illegal
dumping, to report chemical spills into the storm drain systems
or illegal dumping.
